Book Review : The Help

Over the weekend i read this book called "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. After a long time I read a book which I loved. Thiis is one book that I can truly compare with Harper Lee's To Kill a Mocking Bird. The language is simple. The narration is perfect. The era is unmistakable. The characters come out really well. It feels like you are actually witnessing the scene in front of you.
Its not just a story of three woman-Contantine, Skeeter and Minny but of a community, of a nation , of an era. It is something that each of one can identify with. This is what makes this book interesting. It is truly unputdownable. It is a simple story of how maids are treated in 1960's Mississippi.About how they perceive the white woman they work for. The things that they have to go through. It touches upon racism subtly yet has a lasting impact on the reader.
A highly recommended book. Hats off to the author. Read something truly wonderful after a really long time.

book review : the immortals of meluha

finally managed to lay my hands on this book written by a guy called Amish.. i used to keep looking at this book each time i went to the bookstore and i thought may be its based on some mythology and dint really want to get into that.. fortunately i was quite wrong..

an good book with a great plot.. if you are looking for a literary classic then please stay away because the language is really simple.. easy to read.. wont take you more than a couple of hours to finish the book and wait for the sequel already..
the book reminds you of movies in which people are waiting for super heroes to come and save them .. this hero does have some shades of grey which is what makes him more human.. the characters are well sketched and the story keeps you glued to the book..

the book is a welcome change.. a light book .. a good read..

happy reading !

Book Review : Shutter Island

read this book called Shutter island by Dennis Lehane.. dint know this book existed until the movie released.. and I prefer a book to a movie :) ...
awesome book.. really liked it.. so went ahead and watched the movie.. thought the movie doesnt do justice to the book.. but a good movie anyway..

The book talks of US Marshal Teddy Daniels and his partner Chuck Aule who are at Ashcliffe Hospital to investigate the disappearance of a patient Rachel Solando.. But then Ashcliffe is something very different than what it remotely seems like..

the plot is brilliant.. keeps you hooked on till the end...Go ahead and read the book.. its totally worth reading..

Tuesdays with Morrie...

aahh writing something after ages .. i think the only reason i can think of for nor keeping my blog updates is "laziness". there were so many things that i could ve written about .. but then dint end up writing ..
a few days ago i read this book called "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom .. must tell you its an amazing book .. it talks about important things in life which most of us tend to ignore .. we re so caught up in the mundane chores of life that we miss out on things which actually make life worth living .. its a beautifully written book .. it talks about this professor who is about to die and the lessons he gives his student ..
and the best part about the book is it talks about the life that every single person leads today .. from simple human emotions to complexities of life.i generally dont prefer reading self help books because i think they dont really help ! but then i really enjoyed reading this book. few things i could'nt relate to but then on the whole it was a good read .
i think its a book really worth reading !
